I heavy read but I loved it. It's not pleasure reading, and probably won't make as much sense to the non-Christian, but I thought it was a fascinating history of Gnosticism and it made me more convinced than ever that the ideas behind Gnosticism are not only still with us, but now driving Western culture.

For anyone curious as to Gnosticism and its influence in the world, this is the book to have in your collection. Also, if you are looking to study how Gnostic thought influenced some early Christian fathers (such as Clement), this is also an important book to have in your personal library. Very well written and easy to understand, you will certainly enjoy this book as you read how Gnostic thought has evolved throughout the years.

Excellent book and condition.

I highly recommend "Gnosis" as a readable and well organized resource anyone can follow without difficulty. There is no agenda, and it lets you take from it what you wish. Seven years ago I began the serious study of Christian origins as a layperson outside academia. I first studied Gnosticism so-called from the church heresiologists' viewpoint as a skeptic but wanted a more objective viewpoint. So, I turned to the popular works of Elaine Pagels beginning with the "Gnostic Gospels" before backtracking to her more serious works. Understanding Gnosticism and its influence upon New Testament authors, especially John and Paul, brought depth and clarity to difficult or otherwise unintelligible passages. Rather than causing me to question my Christian faith, it has enriched it. Works by Pagels, Kurt Rudolph and Karen L. King's "What is Gnosticism?" are musts for your library on this subject. Of the three, Rudolph is the better source for origins, King for her critical examination of the history, methodology and conclusions of early scholarship, and Pagels for interpreting ancient Christian writings from the Gnostic point of view. I purchased a used hardback edition of "Gnosis" in nice condition through Amazon.

The book has been all that was promised in the promo, plus because it was an e-book it was on my kindle right away.Thank you for an in depth read on this subject and for the wealth of information on those involved in the early centuries.

Mr. Rudolph's book is well beyond my meager knowledge of Gnosticism. The book is for the advanced student of this wonderful approach to life and religion. I hope, in time, I can read the work with real understanding.

A good historical introduction to the rise, development and history of Gnosticism. The book is very well documented and has an extensive bibliography. It covers the historical period of 334 BC until the 17th century. For those who like to know more about the real meaning of Gnosis, I can surely advise its reading!

I had originally read the author’s short story An Indecent Wager and was pleased to see the relationship between the two parties deepened in one of her longer works in this box set. While the writing suffers occasionally from a mistyped or wrongly chosen word in context, the depth and complexity the author brings, particularly to her male characters, is refreshing. This box set contains another pair of stories which, again, deepen the relationship between a marquess and his cousin by marriage. All the tales have a HEA, and while there are elements of dominance in the sex scenes, the more outrageous of them actually sort of take place ‘off stage’.

Georgette Brown knows how to weave a tale that engages and titillates in all the right ways. I have read some of these stories before but enjoyed revisiting them. I love this time period and the elegance of it and Ms. Brown's research and knowledge shows through within her stories. And the characters are all well developed and facinating.

I loved the sarcasm and the witty attitudes of some of the characters. I enjoyed all the stories. Some more than others. Some were too long. And some were too short. You can definitely see the evolution of the author. Thank you for the entertainment at an extremely affordable price. Next time charge more. It was worth much more.

Only then, upon your satisfactory and unconditional submission, will I relinquish the deed to Brayten.Once he accepted it, will he have the patience to be at the beck and call of Darcy? Radcliff is known to be a ladies’ man, will Darcy succumbed to his undeniably good looks and charm?It's been a while since I read a book from this genre and glad I picked this one, it captivates me from beginning to end. I immensely enjoyed reading this short story. Georgette Brown is a new author to me and I’ll definitely read more of her work in this collection. If you're looking for a short and well written historical romance I definitely recommend this one.

This is a great book if you want to design your own sweater. It basically is a buffet of shape and construction options, including drop-shoulder, modified drop-shoulder, set-in sleeve, saddle-shoulder, raglan, and seamless yoke. There's a section on expanding your options, and there are directions, in a chart format, for several different gauges (chart as in a chart listing all the different options, not a chart of stitches... hope that makes sense). The directions are very clear and the back of the book has directions for techniques such as the three-needle bind-off, grafting, etc.The downside to this book is that the sweaters pictured are rather large-gauge sweaters that often do not fit the model very well and so look dated. (I'm thinking particularly of the modified drop shouldered sweater that makes the poor model look like she is being eaten by a snuffleupagus... that she looks so happy to be wearing it is a credit to her. Maybe the studio was really cold.) My guess is that a LOT of sweaters had to be knit for this book, and knitting in a large gauge sped up the process. This is somewhat understandable but unfortunate. Realize that you certainly don't have to knit them that way: directions are given for sweaters with innumerable amounts of ease and plenty of different fits, so the knitter can certainly do better than this. The sweaters pictured are merely examples and not meant to be "this is how your sweater will look." The pictures are the ONLY reason I gave this book four stars as opposed to five because I believe a knitting book's pictures should make people want to knit the patterns.Other than this, however, the book is an invaluable resource for those who want to get away from simply knitting patterns and wish to be creative in their knitting. And the spiral binding is a HUGE plus... I believe more knitting books should be designed this way, because who wants to have to prop their book open and destroy the bidning? I'm currently knitting a British Fisherman's Gansey and several notes in this book helped me a lot.

The Handy Knitting books by Ann Budd are easy to use and come in a spiral sturdy format. These are easy to prop open and work from while knitting a project. This book breaks every part of the sweater into pieces that can be sewn together at the end. Ann Budd's patterns and books that explain knitting in one piece are even better (socks and circular knitting). This book has some great patterns in it but 4 stars for the piece by piece patterns which seem a bit tedious when at the end all has to be sewn together. I maybe a bit lazy.

I was excited to get this book as I like to design my own patterns. I followed one of the patterns and the sweater I made ended up rather big. I think there are some mathematic assumptions made in the master patterns that are generally correct, but may need some readjusting as the knitting happens. For example, in the pattern for a set-in-sleeves sweater (cardigan version), the width at the top of the sleeves is very deep, and the length is way too long. This is more of a tailoring issue, but that should be addressed in the book more. In other words, it would be great if there was a chapter about 'how to customize patterns to fit your particular shape). It doesn't really address (well, at least) how to adjust patterns to fit different body types, or where typically those adjustments are made on the sweater.What DOES work well is that the patterns DO make sense. They are a bit complex to follow (you'll have to leaf through about 10-12 pages as you're working the different parts of the sweater). Also, the math works (I did end up with the proper amount of stitches that the book told me I should end up with at the end of each part.) I also found the different parts fairly easy to put together after I had blocked them.But all in all, I think planning, blocking, seaming, finishing, are all equal parts of the final design and need to be addressed. I think the book could do with expansion on these other areas. It's not a bad introduction, but I ended up more curious about pattern making, and am now starting to make my own patterns as a result.

This book is a handy reference to keep on your shelf. I just love the flexibility of being able to use one pattern in any size or any gauge of yarn. It's a bit complicated to figure out the charts at first, but make a copy and use a highlighter to mark the one you want, as the author suggests. These are all basic patterns, nothing fancy, but it's a good place to start for a beginner/intermediate knitter. This book is a valuable addition to any knitting library.

This book is invaluable for the many times you have a fantastic yarn but no pattern for it. Ann Budd gives you specific stitch counts for every possible gauge. She did all the engineering so all you do is pick up your needles and knit.

If you want to create your own patterns and unique sweaters with your own touch this book is wonderful. It's also helpful if you just want to make sure your measurements work with other patterns and to understand excellent sweater construction that is written in an approachable way. If you're one of those people I envy and know sweater construction inside and out, this may not be the book you are looking for. If you've knit, or attempted to knit a sweater, I say go for it. I found this helpful, interesting and made a lovely sweater with it. The measurement section leaves nothing to chance. All of Ann's books make me happy and I feel accomplished after I work through her ideas. Even though I am not.

I love this book. This book guides you through how to make many different styles of sweaters from child to adult in multiple sizes and gauges. Make pull-overs or cardigans, in the round or straight needles. Choose from multiple styles of collars, neck-lines, sleeves and edges.

We love this silly story. We checked found this book in our local library & checked it out so many times I decided to buy it. You can't help but read the book with a silly accent & my kids love that.

This is the vegan version of "Oregon Trail," an ancient computer game that was once -played on the Apple IIe, and featured "blam-blam" cheesy sounds as you gunned down moose, dear, and bear. Here, there's no fishing or hunting, but you follow the same trail past Chimney and Courthouse Rock, ford a river, climb the Rockies, and raft down the Columbia River to Oregon. Although I wondered the book violated any copyright laws, all resemblance to the "Oregon Trail" ends there.Unlike the game, there's no dysentery, crooked traders, stampeding animals, or cranky settlers. Instead, a plucky family travels from Iowa to Oregon with a gigantic wagon holding a holding a whole orchard of fruit trees: Apples, plums, cherries, pears, and peaches. The book is more enjoyable than I expected, given its resemblance to the game, mostly because of the colorful girl, "Delicious," who narrates the story, and the sometimes silly obsession of her fruit-minded father. When "Delicious" (at least her father didn't name her "Gravenstein") alerts us "Daddy was ready for the most daring adventure in the history of fruit," you know you're in for a clever and exciting tall tale.On the way to Oregon, the family encounters nasty skeptical fellow travelers, weather changes, and natural obstacles. They build a raft and start paddling the Platte River, the "muddy drink started to pull us down":"'The peaches are plummeting!' my sisters shouted.""'The plums are plunging,' boomed my brother.""'Don't let my babies go belly-up!" howled Daddy.Apparently, Daddy's has unbounded concern for the apples of his eye...and he also loves his kids. Delicious, who knows that children raised on apples are "mighty strong" (there's lots of "Western" dialect festooning these pages), gets her sibs to kick off their shoes and kick their feet against the Platte. Later, a windstorm strikes, half-denuding the family (sure to get some laughs from the younger set), and eliciting another cry from Daddy (always in big, bold font):"Guard the grapes! Protect the peaches!"The persistent, albeit slightly goofy Daddy, is shown on a great two-page spread resembling the Disneyland diorama of the Grand Canyon. The family is hauling the wagon up about a 50 degree incline, an impossible task, of course, while the unvanquished Daddy announces, "just a hundred miles to go." In one of many colorful illustrations, Delicious-looking more and more like a young pioneer woman, fights a wispy Jack Frost with a bonfire and a blanket. Very soon, "that low-down scoundrel was hightailing it out of there, heading straight for Walla, Washington. Delicious stands tall and proud. The illustrations slightly recall those of Patricia Polacco with their emphasis on people's faces and long exaggerated lines, although they're not quite as loopy and personal as Polacco's.The books concludes with a successful orchard planting in Oregon, just as in the true story of the parents and their eight children who brought the first apple trees from Iowa to Oregon in 1847. Delicious, easily the most appealing and emotionally satisfying character in the book is last seen high up in an apple tree, munching away and pondering the Gold Rush that that began shortly after their trip. All those fruit trees, she says "made us richer than any prospector. We were happier, too. After all, apples taste a whole lot better than gold."

I bought this book for my granddaughter, who lives in Oregon. I wanted her to learn a little bit about the history of her state. This is an awesome story.

Very nicely written, a must have for engineers.

Good product: clean and rapid deal.

Overall the book covered the material well. However the book was somewhat difficult to follow. It took a couple of passes to clarify what was being said.

Great topic. Not so great a publication but, good enough to keep for the information's sake.

I am amazed at the shear number and details of the many experiments Newton performed on light. His conclusions drawn from these rather simple experiments are astounding.

All that I expected.
