From School Library Journal

Gr 1-5–It is no small feat to entertain children in a book about loving books (an increasingly crowded shelf), but this duo succeeds admirably through well-chosen facts, staggering statistics, an interactive text, and humor. Readers glimpse Jefferson's childhood, adolescence, fatherhood, and presidency through his obsession with reading. There is levity and energy in O'Brien's ink and watercolor scenes. Jefferson's horse has a book-shaped saddle; young Tom fiddles while reading the music from a book mounted to the bridle. There is also sadness, when Jefferson reads to his wife on her deathbed. The full-spread compositions are supplemented by insets shaped like open books that contain quotes by or about Jefferson and his times or interests. In one, a slave remembers that his master might have 20 books surrounding him on the floor. Another describes his revolving bookstand holding five volumes, so he “never needed to stop writing to read or stop reading to write.” Rosenstock details the man's substantial and ongoing involvement in developing and contributing to the national library. The final scene shows Jefferson opening a large book portraying modern and Colonial visitors mingling at the Library of Congress; a minor disappointment is that O'Brien drew generic bookcases instead of the splendid reading room. An author's note adds more information, including context for the fact that the author of the Declaration of Independence owned about 600 enslaved individuals throughout his life. This is a unique portrayal of the life and passions of the third president.–Wendy Lukehart, District of Columbia Public Libraryα(c) Copyright 2013. From Booklist

This attractive picture book uses Thomas Jefferson’s love of reading and collecting books as a lens through which to view the story of his life. Even as a young child, Tom reads through his father’s library, and as a young man, he collects his own. He marries, has children, and makes sure that they read, too. He uses what he has learned from books to write the Declaration of Independence, and other papers through his presidency and retirement to 1814, when a fire destroyed the Library of Congress. The story concludes with Jefferson selling his beloved books to form the basis of the new collection there. The writing, punctuated with questions, statements, and exclamations in red ink, sketches the biographical framework and fills it in with quotes and bits of history to create an unusual portrait of the man. O’Brien’s ink drawings, enhanced by watercolor washes in subdued tones, have a quirky humor all their own. An informative author’s note rounds out this appealing introduction to Jefferson. Grades 3-5. --Carolyn Phelan

Barb Rosenstock does a great job of telling the story of how Thomas Jefferson built his library and contributed to the Library of Congress (and wrote the Declaration of Independence and became president, too--but his love of books takes center stage here). The story is simple and straightforward with lots of active language, so even young readers (or listeners) are sure to be enthralled. Each page has additional information (separate from the main text) that delves deeper into Jefferson's life and library. The illustrations by John O'Brien are playful and provide just the right accompaniment to Rosenstock's lively text. "Thomas Jefferson Builds a Library" is a must-read for book lovers of all ages!

The Forgotten Recipe is an easy, typical, clean romance novel. A book that i found good to give a quick read and not strain my brain too much. It's nice to read a romance novel that isn't filled with steamy physicality. There are still some readers who like romance, but who dislike explicit physical intimacy. This novel will be perfect for them. That it is set in Amish country lends verisimilitude to the sweet romance within the novel. I believe if the novel was set in a large city, the love story wouldn't work.Ms. Clipston is a good descriptive writer--especially when describing meals and the Amish church services. I don't like raspberries, but I surely wanted a piece of that raspberry pie that was mentioned so many times.I gave this novel only an average rating because I felt there were some aspects of Amish culture (use of phones being one thing) that didn't seem to ring true. I also felt that some of the usage of Amish German was awkward and unnecessary.I would still recommend this to the person who wants a well-written, clean romance novel. And I will probably be reading more in the series.

Veronica Fisher is deeply grieving after losing her fiancé when he fell from the roof of the shed he was building. Nothing begins to ease the pain until she finds her grandmothers old recipe for raspberry pies, which mushrooms into a business.Jason Huyard loses his best friend when Seth falls from the shed they were working on and dies. He feels responsible since he had walked away to get water. When he sees Seth’s fiancée sobbing at the wake, he wants to comfort her and ask her forgiveness, but this is not the time. He’ll go to her house later and let her know how sorry he is. He’s wondering how to find where she lives, when his mom sends him and his brother to buy raspberry pies, and finds Veronica running the booth. Jason is so stunned, he can hardly find his voice, much less tell her he knew Seth. However, the longer he puts it off and grows closer to Veronica, the harder telling her the whole truth becomes. As he falls in love with her and her feelings for him grow slowly, what will happen when the truth comes out?The modern conveniences threw me in this novel. All the Amish families have telephones, and Jason wished he had a camera with him to take a picture of his girlfriend at one point. The author’s disclaimer didn’t lessen my skepticism. I found Veronica way too self-centered most of the time. The ending was good until I read the epilogue. It was just a cliffhanger and tease to make the reader want to see what unfolds in the next novel, but it did the opposite for me. I expected better from this author and publisher.

So begins the series that I am falling in love with. Visiting Veronica’s story has brought me a new appreciation for this author. I have always believed in Amy’s talent but reading this book was the icing on this fan’s cake.I love the complexity of the story. Veronica is madly in love with Seth and heart broken with his unexpected death. She handles it with what I am sure to be a strength in faith, in her own time heals to open her heart. I really was glad to see her open up to Jason, I felt like Amy wove them together nicely. Jason is burdened beyond just losing a friend and falling for his girl. There are secrets, that they must face. Then there is the food, I gained fictional pounds from the yummy treats in the book. I am thankful they are fictional and won’t show up tomorrow. Food and Amish go hand in hand, Amy will give you a bite from the baking bug. Or baked goods bug, if you want to go purchase some.I loved when after Veronica found out Jason’s secret, that she was frustrated (rightly so) and Jason wrote her a letter. To have a man write a letter about lavender and rocks. Bring the rocks with you. He not only was a listener but a hopeless romantic. I was tearing up at his letter, just like Veronica. Well done, Amy, well done. Seriously, I don’t cry often or get misty eyed in a book.I felt that this story is not only about forgiving and healing but about listening to one’s heart and soul. We are taught to forgive which can be heard, Veronica showed such raw qualities in this part. The healing was not only about Jason and Veronica but the entire community and the base of faith. Jason and Veronica’s story is entwined with the follow your heart ideal. These two follow their heart, and it is up to you to find out if they lead to each other. I know that the end of the book was just perfect for me. I hope it is for you.

Bought this for a course in my MSW program. I enjoyed the class and we really used the book from front to back. This book has a lot of usuful information if you are looking to start running groups or working with clients in your practicum. I plan on keeping this text and not selling it back because of all the information that you can gain from this book. Im glad that I took the course because of this book!.

Good overview of counseling theoretically schools as applied to group counseling. As usual, the gulf between the actual psychological theories that share these names and the interpretation and application of them within the guidance/counseling realm is pretty huge. But overall a well-written textbook.

Great transaction and good condition . I actually loved reading this textbook. Well written and interesting to read.

Exactly what I needed for my Group Counseling course! After my school bookstore carried the wrong edition and had trouble bringing the newest edition to shelves, I trusted Amazon to have what I needed. My classes started and on a Tuesday and my order was received Thursday. I enjoy Corey very much and recommend this book to others taking a similar advance course.

Great book, I would reccomend to buy it versus renting. Excellent materials and good examples. I have a problem with renting -- whenI ask if i want to buy the book, Amazon requested full price for the book -- I can get it for 1/3 of requested price -- just international edition, no differences.

I've read a couple of Group counseling textbooks and this is my favorite. I was upset with the price but Corey's writing is excellent, his in depth explanation of the different modalities was perfect and I especially appreciated the examples included. This will stay on my reference bookshelf for future use.

Just as described

Great and came in perfect timing super cheap just like to highlight can’t on book because rental but ok for the price great deal amazon for a student !!!
