About the Author

ANNEMARIE AHEARN founded Salt Water Farm in 2009, a cooking school for home cooks on Maine's Penobscot Bay. She began her studies at Colorado College, during which time her interest in food developed while living in Aix-en-Provence, where she studied Provincial cuisine and visited the open-air markets. Later, she apprenticed in the kitchen at Le Jardin Notre Dame in Paris. While in New York, Annemarie worked in the editorial department at Saveur Magazine and wrote a biweekly food column for The L Magazine, entitled the "Downtown Chef." After attending the Institute of Culinary Education with a degree in both Culinary Arts and Culinary Management she worked for Dan Barber at Blue Hill Restaurant as personal assistant to Tom Colicchio of Craft Restaurants, and as a personal chef in New York. She also worked at the Slow Food Headquarters and before opening Salt Water Farm, she taught classes at Cook and Taste, a small, recreational cooking school in Barcelona. Before turning 30, Ahearn was named "Top 30 Under 30" in Food & Wine Magazine, "changing the way America eats."     In 2013, Ahearn opened Salt Water Farm Cafe & Market in Rockport Harbor, Maine, offering locally sourced fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and garnered acclaim in the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and The Boston Globe as well as Bon Appetit,Downeast Magazine, and Maine Magazine. Beautiful cookbook, inspiring menus, but not for a first time cook. The recipes were not carefully vetted, and so miss adding key ingredients half-way through the recipe, or omit key details concerning cooking temperatures or food preparation. If you are an experienced chef, the guidelines provide an excellent general blueprint for creating memorable dining experiences with friends. Love the concept of cooking monthly to a specific full moon theme!

The recipes in this book guide the way on a gorgeous trip through the seasons. I got the book a year ago to provide myself with "inspiration" to invite friends over for dinner more often. 12 months and 12 meals later, I couldn't be happier with my choice! We have delighted in the flavors, colors, and themes of the meals. The recipes were quite approachable for a developing cook - I can now say I have cooked homemade gnocchi, can supreme a citrus fruit, have started making my own stock, and can bake a mean flourless chocolate cake. We loved the freshness of the meals, and we loved the delicious desserts! The pictures are beautiful and the introduction lovely to read. Would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for seasonal, local cooking inspiration.

A beautiful and interesting cookbook! I have been to 2 of Annmarie's cooking classes and they are fabulous along with the farm and scenery perched upon the rocky coast of Maine. It worth a trip so you really can enjoy what she brings to life.

Love the recipes but many of the ingredients will be challenging to find at my local market here in the mid-west. If I can find them in Ohio, I will likely need to go to a specialty market.

Great cookbook with monthly all-inclusive meals. We had a great time preparing the September dinner as a family and look forward to working through the rest of the year.

I was so eager to receive this book (I pre-ordered it) and eagerly read it from cover to cover. I felt that the author held me at arm's length and didn't connect with ideas or recipes.Ahearn wrote about how she always decorates the table with seasonal fruits, twigs, flowers, and vegetables, yet the first photo that shows her table set for guests doesn't have a single bit of decoration.She also said that day lilies are members of the onion family, but they are NOT. They are members of the lily family.I found other errors, but I powered through it. At the end, well, I congratulate her for persevering and writing the book, but I went from licking my chops in anticipation to feeling terribly disappointed. She certainly had a fine restaurant, beautifully decorated, in Rockport, Maine, but sadly, it closed.Noticed that the menu featured in a photo had "filed tomatoes." Took me awhile to figure out that they meant field tomatoes.

A fun book about life in Maine and it sound like a fantasy to live there.

I personally think this book was pretty awful.I've been a dominant woman in the lifestyle two years with a long term live in partner of whom I'm engaged to. Our dynamic has never wavered, and we live a female led relationship 24/7. And I hang out on a pretty awesome BDSM forum and have read and interacted on it quite a lot. I've purchased this book, The Mistress Manual, and Uniquely Rika so I have been subjected to different writing styles and points of view.If I'd read this book as total a newbie, I would have been like, "huh, interesting bedroom games and thoughts..." and put it on the bookshelf never to use as "a lifestyle" ever. She does not present a lifestyle from which to live with a long term loving partner day to day. This book was written from the prospective a professional dominatrix. At most, it'll help you be safe; if about twice a month you want to hit on someone.In the beginning, it makes a bunch of judgments and uses a bunch of labels that I really don't care for. Why do you need a name that implies a lower status just because you're not "hardcore" and "24/7" ? Everyone does it as much as they need and want. No need for such labels.Regarding sadism and masochism, it was a lot of technical info with a few diagrams and safety details I already 99% knew from learning online. If you don't have the time to learn from online about S/M then perhaps this is a book for you, the S/M newbie.Regarding dominance and submission...Well, I didn't see much of it. Example?"This is the clothes you have to buy and wear to give -him- a good time and make you feel like you're playing the part." This concept of constantly catering to the male fantasy is a recurring theme. Don't get me wrong, clothes can give you a lot of confidence and really put you in the mood. But I can top and dominate in jeans and a t shirt just as well and feel no need to wear all leather just to give a potential partner a hard on. Remember, I'M not getting PAID because I'm a lifestyle dominant- not a pro. I don't have the money to buy all the frivolities she suggests to make everything a good time for -him-. My current partner doesn't expect it! And I would just feel resentful if any future partners expected it.I think D/s is better represented elsewhere. I did a review on "Uniquely Rika," and highly recommend it.

Electricity is always dangerous even in mild doses. Like any serious writer or practitioner of these D&S and S&M scenes, communication, knowledgeable consent, detailed planning, safe sex, and more communication even during and after the scene is completed are indispensable. The reason for the increasing popularity of this kind of play is simple: done correctly it can make a sexual tryst last for hours or even all night and into the next day. Where else can a loving couple have seemingly endless sex? Best maps I've found for recreational areas. Quality printing, nice paper, accurate and full of information. Only wish I had more of these...

As with all the trails maps this is well made on quality waterproof paper, and very detailed. What i didnt realize is that this is a water trails map not a hiking trails map. I will still put it to use, just not what I expected.

Has some useful info, do more research with ideas from the pamplet.

This is an excellent map that is really helpful if you are taking a trip down the river and want to do more than simply float the river. It provides details of the surrounding areas so you always know what is around you.

Louise Derman-Sparks is an internationally respected antibias educator. Author (with the ABC Task Force) of Anti-Bias Curriculum: Tools for Empowering Young Children, the original edition of the current volume, she has coauthored additional books with Dr. Carol Brunson Day and Dr. Patricia Ramsey. She speaks throughout the United States and abroad. Louise has a lifelong commitment to building a more just society for all people. Her children, Douglass and Holly, now grown, were her inspiration. A Pacific Oaks College faculty member for 33 years―when its mission and pedagogy refl ected anti-bias education principles― Louise is retired. She served on the NAEYC Governing Board during 1997–2001.Julie Olsen Edwards began her early childhood education career working as a family child care provider as a way to stay home with her new baby. She went on to work for Head Start, teach in private and public preschools and parent cooperatives, and teach kindergarten and reading in elementary schools, and work with community teen mother programs. For 38 years, Julie was on the faculty of Cabrillo College’s early childhood education department, served as program chair, and was founding director of the campus Children’s Center. About the Author

Harvey Stein is a professional photographer, teacher, lecturer, author and curator based in New York City. He currently teaches at the International Center of Photography. Stein is a frequent lecturer on photography both in the United States and abroad. He is the Director of Photography at Umbrella Arts Gallery, located in the East Village of Manhattan. He has also been a member of the faculty of the School of Visual Arts, New School University, Drew University, Rochester Institute of Technology and the University of Bridgeport. This time in looking and reading Harvey Stein's photograhically evocative book, i felt at a loss. I am not a photograher nor a student or traveling companion on this trip(and many others that i read about in the Preface) i see and feel as a lay person. Many of the reviews spoke about things that i was not familiar with..certain things that fellow photographers know about. Despite my naivete, the book left a lasting impression..i thought about the people, their environs, their rituals..pieces of their lives caught momentarily. It did not feel to me as a happy life, one of joy and happy celebration. It was, for me, life lived in poverty, rubble and seeming lack of joy or smiles. It left me troubled. The fact that it had such an impact is largely due to Harvey's amazing eye for capturing the moment, the bars(feeling like imprisonment) the smiling masks on faces..wondering what lay underneath. ..the cragged, tired looking faces and bodies, and all of a sudden, a little basketed baby sleeping next to shelves of fruit. It was what u do when u have to sell and want to keep an eye on your child. That, for me, was the most tender moment. Harvey is so good at not only photograhy but in making you think about the stories..and when i thought about their stories, i felt a sadness in their struggles..that was what i couldnt get out of my mind. That is why Harvey is so good. He shows you things not always pretty but challenging. Kudos to Harvey to make people think and feel some very complicated emotions. Best, maggi rand

The book was professionally packed (with no chance for damage during shipping). It arrived before estimated date. There is a short essay that accompanies the two photo spread that I included here. If I could change anything about the book... I would very much like to read more of the backstories that swirl around these images. I like the size of the book. All the images are at least 8x10 inches and most are larger than that. There are images on every page... so there has to be more than 150 photos! Harvey is a people photographer and this book is crammed with portraits.

Harvey Stein’s Mexico Between Life and Death, is an intense journey into the heart ofthe place and the hearts of the people.When a photographer returns to a country over so many years, a familiarity and a relationship develops with the subject. Stein’s affection and objectivity combine to reveal a Mexico that is at once tough, scary, tender and fragile.He is in close with the people, with what I suspect is an extremely wide angle lens. Accepted as part of the scene. it’s almost as if the moments are witnessed by an invisible eye, their expressions seemingly unaware or unconcerned with this witness with a camera. In strong black and white images this is a street photography book with brilliant juxtapositions. Stein’s use of the edges of the frame are as important as the center. His fluency with the medium and language of photography, there can be no doubt. these poetic images, finds the transcendent in the ordinary.This is what makes these images remarkable, a documentarian who sees with the eyes of a poet.

This book is a great culmination of 15+ years of visits to several parts of Mexico. The work itself is excellent - some of his best yet. Also, the quality of printing and binding is top notch. Photos are large, with no awkward layouts. The sequencing of the photos is also well thought out. If you are a fan of Harvey Stein, Mexico, or street photography, this is worth having in your collection!

Even if you've been to Mexico many times, when you read this book you will see the country and its people with new eyes. Harvey Stein's eyes--observant, compassionate, and always looking where you might not have thought to look. Here he focuses on the rituals of life and death, but as always his larger subject is the transcendent beauty of the everyday.

Another outstanding work by Harvey Stein! The photos are outstanding as always and capture a level of emotion that I can only dream of aspiring to as a photographer.

I think Harvey says it best in the intro of his book when he describes Mexico as "...a country of paradox, beautiful and serene, but with a palpable air of poverty and struggle."Harvey explores these dichotomies with his attention to irony, infatuation with overlooked beauty and his exceptional sense of light and composition. His many visits to Mexico have not only provided him with an artistic understanding of an extremely enthralling and specific facet of the country's culture (the celebration of death), but a seemingly spiritual one as well.Harvey’s images are transporting; each one immortalizes a moment that feels as if it’s suspended between our realm and another...between life and death. I used this book as my only method of studying for the quant section on my 2nd attempt of the GRE and I went through the ENTIRE book. I really felt good about like 80-90% of the material after using this book. But then when I took the test, my quant score only increased by one point. I think the problem was only using this book. It covers most everything you need to know but on a very basic level. I've learned I'm not the type of person that can learn the basics of a math concept and then apply it in a more advanced way. I need to be shown how to apply it. I highly recommend the site Magoosh for quant. It covers everything in depth and has tons of videos, explanations and practice questions. But you will need a lot of time to get through everything. It's not the sort of material you can speed through in a short time span. So if you have at least a couple of months before the test, Magoosh is a good tool. It costs money but I'd say it's worth it. As for this book, if you feel like you just need a basic review to refresh your memory this might do the trick. But if you seriously need to relearn everything like I did, I'd suggest Magoosh.

This book is great for people who need to work on their fundamentals in math. Be warned, the practice problems are easy because it is trying to teach you the basics.

This was excellent for a review of high school math. The explanations were clear and, I feel, taught better than the method's we'd been taught in school. As another review mentioned, this book does a decent walkthrough the basics of high school math. And though the GRE is supposed to test that, it really tests how well you know how to take the test. This book does not prepare you well for that.

The explanations are shallow. Many of them are only useful if you already understand it. Buy Manhattan prep.

Great for the beginning stages of GRE prep. I would recommended buying an additional study guide that offers a bit more challenging and overall relevant content.

Great product, good tool for reviewing.

Would be best for those who need help with the more basic math.
